It may help with a search to know that 'IRRV' doesn't exist any more - what was called PR with IRRV was renamed as from November 2010, to be just called PR. (Your new sticker will say that without any fuss.) http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra.../residence.htm

They said they can do it on the same day if they aren't busy. Otherwise, might take a week to 10 days by post. £55 is the fee.
I asked about entering as a visitor, then doing to NZIS Wellington the next day to transfer the visa. This is apparently not allowed, although it would be so much cheaper and easier for me and presumably so many others to do!
