    Default Residence Visa Travel Condition

    Hi
I have applied for SMC Visa which is in process and was reading the condition for travel under "Residence" category
    http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...nnz/residents/

It says, "You may be ready to go for a holiday overseas; or maybe you need to travel to see friends and family? If so, you need to make sure the travel conditions of your resident visa are up to date.

Travel conditions are the conditions of your resident visa which allow you to re-enter New Zealand as a resident. Resident visas are usually issued with travel conditions for two years."

What I am not clear, does people with "Residence" status not allowed to travel for 2 years out of NZ till their "Residence" visa gets converted to "PR-Resident" ?
Or People can travel to their home country, in case there is emergency in family.

I did not get a clear picture on the INZ website around the travel condition, will appreciate inputs from all on this.

The first visa you get if successful under Skilled Migrant is Residence, which comes with travel conditions valid for two years. This gives you the right to travel in and out of NZ freely during that time. (The conditions give permission; they do not restrict you.)

It is only when the two years has passed (and therefore, the travel conditions have expired, and the person has not done anything about renewing them, or changing the Residence visa for PR) that there will be a problem with coming back into the country.

After the two years, you can get PR if you have demonstrated commitment to NZ. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm Or if you have not met any of the conditions at the bottom of that page, you can renew your travel conditions (see the side column on that link for details).

Only condition is to return to NZ before the expiry date of travel. 184 days requirement is not for travelling in/out, it is for PR visa.

The Op was asking the specific question about people with residence status (see enclosed quote) to which I have replied with the correct reply

    Hi.

What about the dependent family members do they need to fulfill their visa Conditions separately.

Do they also require all the visa holders of a familyto remain in new zealand

You have picked up on very old thread here, though nothing has changed. Each person included in the residence application must make an arrival in NZ within the validity of thier initial residence visa.

Then , it is only the principal applicant that must fill the requirements for the Permanent Resident Visa.Non principal applicants are not required to spend any further time in NZ
