    Hello and welcome.

I expect you'll get some more replies when NZ wakes up. Meantime, here's an old thread that ran from 2010 into 2011 on this subject, which might give you something to think about. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28924

The cost varies from place to place and company to company. It would be helpful if you call multiple companies and ask for a quote. When we moved from IL in 2011 we used rainier and they gave us a quote of $17/Cu ft and we used a 20Ft container. It took 55 days from the day we shipped till the items arrived in NZ. Hope this helps.

It also depends on if you use a shipper that packs it all for you, or if you hire a shipper where you pack it yourself and they ship it. Generally if you pack it yourself it is approximately $5k from the West Coast of US and if you go with full service it is about $10k. But this is for 20 foot container. And this is what we have been basically quoted from different companies. Best of luck.

Used Rainier (out of Seattle) when we moved last July from NOVA to Hamilton, 20 ft container, approx $8000 US total. Took 2-3 months. (went cheaper, slower route).

Obviously it will vary some, but roughly 90 days and $10k. We're planning on moving (USA to NZ) as soon as our house sells.

We used UPAKWESHIP. Biggest pro-$6500 for a 40ft door to door. (Shipped out of LA) Biggest con-they only give you 2 hours to pack it! You can go over time for $95/h but you have to rent a ramp to get into the container (it stays on the truck) We managed to rally a bunch of helpers and we had everything staged the way it would go into the container and we barely made it in the 2 hours. The movers on the other side are World Moving and Storage Ltd...they are very communicative until you don't owe them any more money, then they are useless! They do have movers on this side though. It was to initially take 2weeks for our container to arrive, but then there was a dock worker's strike in Auckland so it ended up being 7 weeks.
All in all we were happy as we knew we would have to pay GST on the contents because we came over on visitor visas. So what we saved we ended up spending anyway!

What does that mean exactly? The international moving companies based in the U.S. need a license to transport household goods into a different country...

I would love some advice from those that have moved from the West Coast of Canada. We would be moving from Kelowna BC to Hamilton, likely a 20ft container or perhaps a partial load...advice on who to get quotes from, roughly what it cost you, any problems you encountered. We are looking to do it as cheaply as possible (aren't we all) so would consider taking our stuff to Vancouver and picking it up in Auckland or Tauranga...
