Default Is NZQA Assessment required in my case?

    Hi
I submitted certified copies of all our (mine and my wife's) degree certificates while filing for the PR. The Immigration team came back saying " Please arrange to submit the NZQA Assessment of your overseas quals along with relevant marsheets, as claiming points for your qualifications". The same was asked in my wife's case too.

I've just gone through the NZQA website and also given them a call this morning and they said we don't need our degrees to be assessed as it falls under the exempt category. Our degrees are from the Mumbai University.

I've replied back to the Immigration team mentioning that and also given them the link where it clearly shows degrees from the Mumbai University is exempted from assessment.
Do you think the NZ Immigration team will be convinced with this or will they still want our degrees to be assessed. It's such a rigid process that sometimes I feel I should have just carried on with my work to residence visa as I'm anyways working.

Quick response here will be much appreciated.

Did you claim bonus points for your qualifications?

I know if you are claiming bonus points for your qualifications, then CO may ask for NZQA report.

    Check below links:

    (1) Future growth area:

    http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/30594.htm

    They said
Recognised qualifications in an identified future growth area only qualify for points if the principal applicant provides evidence that satisfies an immigration officer

    (2) Absolute skills shortage

    http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/30595.htm

    They said
recognised qualifications in an area of absolute skills shortage will only qualify for points if the principal applicant provides evidence that they obtained the specialist, technical or managerial expertise required for their employment in an area of absolute skills shortage through completion of the recognised qualification

They didn’t mention exemption from assessment here, maybe NZQA report is needed for bonus points.

You need to wait response from INZ, hope it will be in your favour.

Sarang - The NZQA assessment is needed based on certain condition. Please look at the exemption list on NZQA, though it says, Degrees obtained from Mumbai Univ. is exempted (also not all degrees obtained from Mumbai Univ. are recognized, please take care of the same as well), it also states the year of exemption. Which means if you have been awarded your degree after the year mentioned, you do not need NZQA evaluation.
If your degree is awarded before the year mentioned then YES you have to get your NZQA assessment done.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks all.
Himanshu, you are right. the CO came back and told me that since our degrees are before 2001, it needs to be assessed. However, he also asked me to keep it on hold as he believes that even without the degrees, I should be able to qualify. I had scored 260 points.
Will keep you all posted on how it goes through. But, for me now is the medical worry.

My application just got approved ..

They didn't need me to get my certificates assessed as my points were above 260 inspite of them not considering my bachelor's degree. They however considered my Masters.

Sorry to open this old thread. To my surprise, I do not see Mumbai University in the list http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/47086.htm Was there any change recently regarding this? I have my education from Mumbai University and looks like I would need to get NZQA Assessment?

    Hi Joshua,

They keep on filtering the list. Mine too used to be there until two years back, but it's no more there. You'll have to go with NZQA assessment.

    Cheers!
