Claiming bonus points for work experience

Hi Everyone,

Is there someone who experience to claim a bonus with work experience under LTSSL but the qualification is not totally the same with the required qualification under Column 3 of LTSSL ?

My overseas qualification Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering was assessed by NZQA as Level 7 Bachelor degree of Applied science but the requirement is below in order to claim bonus for work experience.


Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Systems or other Information Technology)

OR Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Technology AND three years of relevant work experience.

Dear Jeremy,

I'm afraid that you cannot claim for bonus points through the above qualifications. Here two problems seem to exist:
1. The outcome of assessment does not contain either of the names "Electronic" or "Information Technology/Science".
2. It is not recognized as an ENGINEERING degree. It should be "Bachelor of engineering ....".

But to make sure about this, you can submit and EOI and see whether this is acceptable.

JadeM has given you the right approach. Even if you are doubtful. i will suggest you to play a gamble by filing EOI. (Only in case if you can gamble 510$ for EOI).

I also agree with JandM. Im an Electronics and communications engineering graduate and prior the ammendment of LTSSL sometime nov-dec 2011 when the degree "electronic" engineering is not yet indicated in column 3, i submitted my EOI with 140 pts but was later declined. As what the officer mentioned i can not claim bonus pts in this area because i don't have a degree in information technology or computer science.

So have you submitted a new EOI instead ? Only Electronics Engineering option came into the picture on 05 Dec 2011.

Yes, I have submitted another one last June.. now on ITA also.

I was able to claim bonus points since my university is in the list of exemt from assessment. How about you? I can see that you requested for IQA..

I believe you can still contact NZQA if possible to change the qualification name so it will be aligned to what is in column 3 of LTSSL.

Your work is in ICT right? you may advise NZQA about this so they can recheck your qualification.

Hows your case about your IQA? I read your post from other threads and you were able to get your comparative assessment. Hope everything is working well.
