Default Rabies test - Dog from the USA

We're planning on moving home (from the USA) and will be bringing our pug with us. He's had his rabies vaccine and his first titer test nearly two years ago. This window is about to expire and we need to get him his booster and re-test.

Can anyone point me to a document that states how long we have to wait between the booster and the blood draw for the titer test? The only thing I can find states that you need to wait three weeks between the FIRST vaccine and the titer test, no mention of the booster. I'd hope that would mean we can test right away, but would like to confirm.

    Thanks!

When our dog had his booster she said we needed to wait one month before she would draw for the titer test. She didn't want the numbers too high from the booster.

You could try PMing our member dilanium - she's in NZ having attended vet school, and brought her own animals in from the USA, so she's an expert.

Thanks for the replies. We're heading to the vet this afternoon to get his booster so will see if the vet can add any info as well. Will shoot a PM to Dilanium.

We thought we might need a second booster and new titre test and were told at the time minimum three weeks from booster as that is when the reading will be at its highest. So it seems that from 21 to 28 days will be recommended.

Have you started talking to pet importers yet? We used IPT and they offered lots of advice for free while we were getting ready. They will be the best people to guide you.
