    Default Primary school enrollment

    Hi to all,

Is it compulsory to enroll your child to the primary school at age of 5 or 6?

    Thanks

Everyone starts school on their 5th birthday, not sure if it compulsory or not. Hopefully someone else can clarify that for you. We have been very pleased with the local primary school. We have 2 kids, 1 just about to start 2nd yr(6) and 1 about to start 3rd yr(8).

Are you asking about the time (i.e. enrol by a certain age), or if you have to enrol them at all?

As far as I understand the law, every child from their 6th birthday onwards needs to be schooled or educated, whether you do that at home or in a school setting is up to the parent. There are people who homeschool (here on the forum as well), so they will be able to tell you more about the law regarding this area.

So no, it is not compulsory to have them got to an actual school.

Most children start school on their 5th birthday, although schools will negotiate their initial hours and pre-visits. As Daniela states, ALL children need to receiving some form of registered education (including home schooling) by their 6th birthday.
