    Default Moving to Rotorua...

    Hi everyone,

I'm moving to Rotorua for six months in a couple of weeks - I'm a 24 year old guy from London in the UK and excited about a new adventure for a few months! I wondered if anybody who lives in Rotorua or is familiar with the town might be able to give me some hints tips:

    - What areas might be good to live in? Any to avoid?
    - Are there any good clubs/societies/groups in the area that might be good to be involved with? Obviously really keen to meet people once I'm over there and just trying to get a bit of a sense of what's out there.

    Thanks everyone,

    Hi and welcome.

We've been living here in Rotorua since Jan this year. I have 2 daughters aged 22 and 18 years so can ask them anything you need to know about what's on for your age group. Rotorua always has something happening, it's the tourist capital of NZ.
What sort of stuff are you hoping to do whilst you're here? Are you on a 6 month holiday visa?
What sort of accommodation are you looking for? So I can give you some ideas of areas.
    Happy to help

J&M - Thanks for the hello and welcome!

Metasoul - thanks for your reply! Great to know that there's always something happening. I'm on a six month working holiday visa and hoping to stay until May 2013 (ish!) I'd be interested in any running clubs, social events/clubs or anything that you'd recommend on where's best/good to meet other 20-somethings who might be working or studying. Any suggestions will be welcome

In terms of accomodation, ideally I'd look initially for a flatshare with other people (ideally 1 - 3 others) but I'm not sure how available/often these rooms may come up? Not too fussy on what it looks like - although furnished would be a bonus! - it's more important for me to be in a nice location. If that plan fails, then I'd be interested in renting out a one bedroomed apartment in the town. It would be great to have a sense of any areas that might be best to look for at first.

Thanks so much for all of your help

    http://www.sportbop.co.nz/active_Rotorua

Google clubs in Rotorua for loads of choices....whatever you're into....there'll be a club or association in Rotorua

People here for a short time seem to gravitate to http://www.stayatbase.com/hostels/ne...torua....again Google backpackers.

    Try http://www.trademe.co.nz/property/re...plenty/rotorua for rental properties.

Or look at real estate agents - http://www.google.co.nz/#hl=en&sclie...w=1280&bih=626

Better locations are - Lynmore, Springfield, Westbrook, Tihiotonga. Areas to avoid are Fordlands, Owhata, Selwyn Heights, Western Heights.

What sort of work are you looking at?

    Hope that helps

Haven't lived in Rotorua but my experience just passing by the city was amazing. The landscapes over there are breathtaking - and if you happen to be an artist, you'll love it
However if you're 24 fast-paced active young individual, you might find it too small and "tight" to live, I suppose.
