Default Those of you from the US...getting a mortgage

Did the lender run credit check to see your history in the US?

I've heard that your credit history doesn't follow you but don't quote me. (I'm in the process of buying but not getting a mortgage)

I had great credit in the US and offered copies of my report from the various agencies but my bank didn't want them. I guess working for the lending bank at the time, I had a distinct advantage (also meant I had to keep my nose financially clean here!).

Thanks for the replies. We have very good credit, which means we have pretty high available balances on our credit cards, which we don't want to cancel. I've read a few times that banks may consider this available debt a liability when applying for a mortgage. I may end up calling a broker or a bank next week amd see what sort of info I can get.

We have kept our US credit cards with silly credit limits (why would I need enough to buy a car?!?) and when we got our mortgage here National Bank didn't care at all.

No and we had lost a house in the US(market crash) so we did not want it checked! Got a mortgage no issues.
