    Default EOI English Requirement Confusion

    Hi Can Anybody Help

I have just started to complete the EOI, and I have come to the part requesting my English ability. I am British born, raised & schooled. What do I need to declare on the EOI for my English ability & do I need to take an IELTS test ?

    My choices are
    1. An IELTS Test Report with an overall band score of 6.5 or more
    2. Study for a recognised qualification conducted entirely in English
    3. Current skilled employment in New Zealand for 12 months or more
    4. Otherwise meets the minimum standard, as defined in the guide
    5. None of the above

I have ticked number 4 but this does not offer any additional poins on the EOI tally, nor does number 2, can anyone offer any advice please.

    4. Otherwise meets the standard. Just put in a short statement as you have above in the free text box, saying English is your first language.

It's nothing you get extra points for BTW, but a pre-requisite

So, looking at that link, you come under SM5.5, c i, probably, and definitely c iii. It's normally just a matter of stating what you've said above, that you're British born, raised and schooled.

We were excused the English language requirement at ITA because we are all British born and bred, no evidence was asked for or given. Good job too as we would have actually struggled to get proof for one of DS as he went to Welsh speaking schools until he was 14. He learned to read and write only in Welsh until he was eight and was at a monoglot secondary school where every subject except English was taught in Welsh.
