I am a New Zealand Citizen now!
No one would have thought about this eight years ago. I/We never had dreams or desires of emigrating - but life has been leading a different way. Seven years ago I came here on a recce, looking for a job. I was successful within a short period of time and 'just' stayed, starting work; family following a few months later. At first staying on a visa permit, application/s for residence and subsequent permanent residence followed some time later (I am using the old terms as they were used at that time).
Thinking about applying for NZ citizenship for me meant thinking about giving up my old one (keeping the old one is only allowed in very few exceptional circumstances). 'But' after some time we knew this is just the right thing for us to do. So that is what I did - with success - now; my wife will follow as soon as she is eligible, and who knows about our kids.
It was great to see how diverse we new citizens are, just considering our background: There were 30-odd people from around 20 different countries in all continents; no 'bulks' there. Also the variety in using bible, koran or no particular book at all when taking the oath and the many people taking the affirmation is pleasing.

Sounds like it was a very special day for you and a big decision for you to give up your old citizenship, but that you know it was the right thing to do.
We hope to follow in your footsteps in the future.
Many congratulations.
