    Cool Tauranga

Right first of I appologise for the length of this post in advance but just wanted to gather a bit of info! I have done loads of research but always best to get further info

    1) Basically I have been offered a Job in Tuaranga and am weighing up if to take the big jump or not! I will give a few details on offer as feel would help with replies ... so its basic $70,000 + bonus (im currently on £24,000 in uk and no bonus), return airflight, $1,500 relocation costs, medical insurance plus a few other benefits, but have to sign 3 year contract .... first and foremost would this be a good wage to live on in the area? My lifestyle in uk is play football 3 times a week, memeber of a gym, out on a sat night and nice meals 2/3 times a month, cinema 2/3 times a month.

    2) About me ... im early 30s and like outdoors life, beach, walking, cycling etc so like the look of the area and would be coming over with partner who is mid 20s .... she is worried the area may not having much going on for young people so anyone info on nightlife and if its a 'happening' area.

    3) Job opportunitys for partner - whats jobs like in the area? She has - 1st class degree and distiction in her masters in english and works in PR/Marketing writing website content, brochures, profiles etc. She is worried that wont be much opportunity there, we have used loads of jobsites found and not much in terms of marketin/pr. Looked at prioty one as as well

To sum up would love to hear info on tauranga/bay of plenty and the area. It is mainly my partner who as reservations, if it was just me would just take the plunge .... im lucky with my job could move to NZ and if didnt like could easily just jump straight back into work elsewhere.

Anyway hope to hear from people and thanks for reading

    Hi
Congratulations on the job offer! I am totally biased - I lived in Tauranga for 11 years and loved every minute of it. I miss it evey day! $70,000 is a good wage and you coudl live onit comfortably. As a comparison, a Polytechnic lecturer in the top half of the pay band would be around this wage. There are several football teams (you might have to learn to call it soccer). For example, Te Puke (just down the road) have a great men's team (my son played for them)- and I am sure there are plenty more. There are numerous good gyms, several clubs and lots of excellent restaurants. The beach at Mount manganui (all part of same place0 is amazing! It's not as vibrabt as Auckland or Wellington, but, there's a fair bit going on and it's only just over 2 hours to Auckland. There are several companies specialising in marketing/online publishing etc. If you have been in touch with Annie at Priority One, she is great at healong new mirants find jobs.

Because I am a Licensed immigration Adviser, I have been asked not to mention my website in this part of the Forum and I respect that. If you send me a private message, I wil send you a link to newsletters written from Tauranga and also to lots of photos. If you tell me who the job offer is from, I might be able to give you the low down. I am not interested in trying to get money off you, so don't worry! Kind regards

    Karen

You wouldn't be able to PM her (or anyone) until you have made five posts on any thread. Now you have done that, give the automatic system time to 'notice', and the ability will be there. Click on anyone's username over one of their posts, and you'll see PMing as one of the possibilities.

Great place Tauranga. Lovely weather. Any news on whether that's where you're heading Saddy?

I'd love to hear more about the place, too. It's still our favoured destination*, more so after our first reconnaissance in April 2012. I believe Duncan74 moved there, but he hasn't been around the forums lately.

*Although that will depend entirely on where I can find a job offer when I start looking next year - Tauranga has a few landscape architecture practices, but not that many compared to the rest of the country.
