The cockies need the rain! How about putting some gum boots on and going for a walk around the block and letting your kids splash in every puddle they come across. My kids love that.

Unfortunately we're living out of a suitcase so no wellies here. Was more thinking along lines of taking them out somewhere. Not very nice for walking about with kiddies where we're staying

Where are you staying? Which city, even? Then people can give you some better suggestions.

Christchurch centre. We went to a soft play then took the bus into centre and found some shops which was nice. Once we find a house and car and meet some friends things will get easier :-)

Try changing your location from UK, it'll make respondants more informed!

How old are the kids? Not enrolled in school because of age or... ??

Have you checked out Chipmunks or possibly Lolipops playcentres? What is a soft play???

The forecast is to be dry and sunny again soon!

Hagley Park has good children's play area and nice walks plus Antigua boat sheds...if you fancy bating under your own steam.
New Brighton to walk along the pier and the beach - can bus here
Sumner for the beach and Scarborough Park for play area - can bus here
Most parks will have some form of play equipment
Try Central Library/New Brighton Library (at the pier), not been post EQ to central but old one used to have good kids area and places to read books
With transport Spencer Park and the woodland walks in Bottlewood
Ferry to Quail Island at Lyttelton
    Cinema at Northlands, Riccarton etc.
    Antarctic Centre to see penguins
Ohana Park, the local zoo, but far out without car
Clip n climb at the Roxx, great for monkeys and children too!

Just some thoughts but depends on funds, transport etc.

Location changed! kids are 7 and 4. We only arrived on Thursday so we're staying at a motel in town. Still need to find an area and house and school. Partner went to work yesterday which is why it's harder for us to get about. We went to chipmunks yesterday, that's what we call softplay thanks mamee and co for all the information, we'll try something today.

Hi, whereabouts in town are you staying? We live in St Albans, just north of the city centre (We're up near the top of Madras Street if you know where that is yet!), so quite an easy walk from the centre (depending which side you are...). If you fancy seeing a friendly face on this grey day you'd be very welcome to pop in for coffee Know what it's like being in a motel with husband at work! I've got a 4 yr old girl (and an almost 3 yr old and an 11 month old). My saving grace when I arrived was meeting people via this and other forums
We spent a lot of time at Riccarton Mcdonalds (big soft play in it) and Hagley Park when we arrived, we were staying in Upper Riccarton but the buses are great here at least! Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is great, but not sure which bus you'd get out there, the Air Force Museum is also good on a grey day.
