Default Medical approaching in few days !! advice needed

    Hi all

I and my wife are going to have our medical tests for "work to residence" visa in 10 days’ time. Any one shares their experience in terms of any precautions we may take or food we may avoid??

My BMI is 32.5 at the moment and waist 95cm (I am Asian) but my wife is well within the limits. I had high cholesterol few weeks back which as per latest result is now well within the range. Also I reduced BMI from 36 and waist from 102cm. However as per the latest results I came to know my liver function is slightly raised (not a big concern as said by GP).

I do have some pimples on my face and as per GP this is how my skin is, nothing abnormal.

What can I expect based on the above?

I am 30 and never had any issues with my health. Do they also ask parent's health conditions and being honest does it make difference to your medical results? (My mom is diabetic and my father passed away age of 43 (15 years back) – it was natural death no cause mentioned on the death certificate)

    Thanks in advance all

    Zaryab

The main thing is to avoid excess of all kinds in the run-up to the medical - don't have any huge meals, don't drink alcohol, or unusual amounts of water (or any other drinks), and don't do violent exercise or long sessions of it, as all these things can make your body give abnormal readings.

Here is what the doctor is going to be looking out for/asking you. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd...lExaminers.pdf

Many thanks for sending the link. Seems they will not leave a single stone unturned to find out if one has any sort of medical problem.

There are various threads here which suggest various things and I am bit nervous on this given the time period by which we need to be in NZ

Hi. If there is any cause for concern, the delay while the INZ specialist doctors examine the rports is usually around 3 weeks (well in the UK it is). The fact that you are in the process of losing weight and reducing your BMI is a positive. Do you have eveidence - photos, letter from your doctor or someone who weighed you and recorded results? If your own doctor thinks the slightly raised liver function is not a problem, perhaps s/he would put that in writing for you to take. I know it's hard, but try to relax. I had a slight delay because they thought I might have TB - I have never had active TB, but I was exposed to it as a baby and all was well in the end, although I got very anxious at the time. Good luck! Karen

    Hi Karen

That is good to hear. I am going to meet my GP to discuss and let them know that I am going to have a medical for NZ Imm and see if they can give me a positive letter. It is very stressful process but I hope the so called judgement day, my results are normal

A friend of mine drinks 1L of homemade juice (kale, spinach, apple, pear, carrot, water, misc frozen fruit) and his blood pressure dropped to a very healthy range (~120/70) from (~140/80) [which is also quite healthy]. He also relayed story of two individuals who went from taking bottles of pills per week, to no pills per week after increasing their intake of homemade juices. I'm not plugging any method, just pointing out that getting healthy w/rt food/drink can be quite easy. All things in moderation. Plus a little walking can do wonders for ones health.

My family and I had our medicals last week. We've never had any particular health issues, including weight issues, but I found the medicals to be a lot less stressful than I thought. There is always this fear that if anything turns up, it could mean the end to your dreams. Our panel doctor didn't really ask any difficult questions and we were totally open about our health and that of our parents. The doctor encouraged us by telling us whether a particular question was really important or not for INZ. We had a basic checkup, a basic eye test (can you read these letters?) and a few simple questions.

The fear lies though with the blood / urine tests. Our panel doctor phoned us up the next day to tell us the results from the lab, and they were all clear (all values within range). They only check for major diseases / illnesses though.

I guess you've had your medicals by now. How was it for you?

It was a relief once it was done, and if you're spending that much money then you want the right result (!).
