I searched for BA jobs for around 3 months. ended up getting Data Analyst job..

That's Great although Its a completely different scope as I guess. I'm still testing the waters and have no idea what the expectation of BA domain in NZ. Are companies these days mostly into agile/Scrum or more traditional approaches?

Both, depending on the company. Some are quite keen on Agile but mainly use the terminology, some are actually using a somewhat Agile approach but don't call it that, and yet others really try to apply that approach. It is certainly a good buzzword to have on your CV.

I'm a business analyst.

I registered with a number of agencies when I arrived, but found them on the whole to be useless. I then applied to two places directly responding to ads, got two job offers and am still working at the one that I accepted.
