Default Full-time Job offer during Study.. What to do now ?

One of known is studying in Wintec (Hamilton) and its been just 7 months of his study with 4 more months to go.
Fortunately he was contacted over linkedin by an employer and after 3 round of Interviews got selected for a full
time job which is relevant to the study.

Employer is in really hurry to hire and fully eager to sponsor for work permit but issue is he still have to finish the study
and college is very reluctant to help him. So Kind of curious to know what could be done and what would be the harm
if he abandons the study in between and apply for VOC.

He is on international student permit right now with official study till November 2013
Employer wants him to join in first week on June and ready to sponsor Work permit
Employer do not want/Can not do any help in sorting Study .

    All suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Is he fully qualified in the skill, even WITHOUT the course he is thinking of quitting?

So for instance, suppose the listing for XYZ skilled career states that the required qualification for this, for INZ purposes, is a Bachelor's degree in XYZ. Is this person you know just now doing the Bachelor's degree in XYZ, and the employer doesn't mind if he hasn't finished it? Or had already got the Bachelor's degree in XYZ, and is part-way through something extra, such as a Master's or graduate diploma in XYZ?

@Jandm Thank you for your reply, Well it is kind of second case of your post.

He already got Bachelor degree 4-5 years ago from his home country and then
5 years of work experience working in a MNC in same field.

Now this study in NZ is also a Bachelor degree but with different subjects
and with a curriculum which is slightly deviated from his previous study and experience.

Job offer he received is based on his past work exp and study.
