Default Work Visa holder setting up a business in NZ as a sole trader

    Hi there,

My wife is a Brazilian holding a Work Visa under Family Stream category - I am currently studying a 2 Years Master Degree and I am on a Student Visa.

She is a talented cook/chef specialised in confectionery. Can she start a sole trader operation and sell products in NZ?

We are aware of the food legislation in terms of City Council licenses, and also in terms of GST/IRD for sole traders. However, we are not sure if there is a limitation due to her Work visa status.

Does anyone have some knowledge/advice about this?

    Thanks a lot

    Sailor

Yes, she can be in business as a sole trader, as long as her partner-sponsored work visa is in force. http://www.dol.govt.nz/immigration/k...base/item/1106
