Question Educational Qualification and Work experience

Hello Everyone. It is my fist post here and I am really glad. It's been a long time dream of mine to come and live in New Zealand.

I have a couple of doubts on which any input would be really be appreciated.

I have completed my B.Sc. (IT) through distance learning with lateral entry to the 4th Sememter (out of 6 semester's) by completing a Software Engineering course (ANIIT) of 24 months as a per-requisite and also giving a backup exam for the lateral entry to the 4th Semester. The Software Engineering institute (NIIT) where I studied has a tie up with the university and provides this later entry option. The University is recognized by the Indian Government.
So I want to know whether I fall under level 7 of education under New Zealand standards and would I be getting bonus points for it as it is a field of absolute skill shortage list.

I work as a Database Administrator (which comes under the LTSSL - Database Administrator (262111)) and have been working since June 2011. So I will be completing 2 years of work this year.
So am I eligible for bonus points? I guess I am not. I just want to make sure I am not guessing wrong.

    Thanks
    Abhishek

You need to look at the list of qualifications exempt from assessment, to see if your qualification is already recognized. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...ndguides/lorq/ If it is not, it will have to be assessed by NZQA http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualificatio...r-immigration/. It is their job to look at the details of any foreign course, to check what subject matter has been studied, to what depth and for how long, in order to state first, which NZ qualification is most nearly equivalent, and secondly, what NZ Level it can be said to have. (This is only done if you apply for the IQA. PAR, which is recommended as a first step, is ONLY carried out by looking at the title of the degree - nothing of the content is studied, and it is much safer to save your money and go straight for IQA, which will be needed for ITA in any case.)

No private person can tell you for certain what answer NZQA will come up with.

Looking at the Essential Skills list, requirements for your career are as follows.
Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Information Technology (Computer Science, Information Systems or other Information Technology) OR Bachelor degree (Level 7) specialising in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Technology AND a minimum of three years' relevant post-qualification work experience.
If your degree, B Sc in IT, is recognised as Level 7, you would qualify under the LTSSL, and for bonus points under absolute skill shortage, IF you meet the other requirements. You need to look at the NZ operational manual, the whole section about Residence, to see the detailed requirements for claiming the points under each heading. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/6954.htm SM6 has a chart of all available points, and the last column directs you to which other section you need to study, to know whether you meet the requirements.

    Hi JandM,

I Have a qualification: Bachelors of Commerce from India,
According to the link u posted: my qualification is exempted from assessment.
Bachelor of Commerce Honours*** BCH Level 7 50

The university where I have pursued this degree is Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjab, the qualifications awarded by this university are also acknowledged by INZ. But my qualification is not written in front of this degree (In the list provided by INZ). So I am a bit confused. (Hope my point is clear)

Anyone, who have claimed points for Bachelors from Panjab University, Please comment.

    Thanks

I have just seen this post, WAY after you made it, and too late to be of any use to you (though I'm happy to see everything came out right and you got your Residence ). Apologies for missing you at the time.
