    Wink Self-Employed Graphic Designer/Artist?

I have another hypothetical situation question haha..

I am coming to NZ on a Working Holiday Visa but let's say I want permanent residency and my "real" job is being a self-employed graphic/web designer and artist? Do they have work visas for people like me who work alone? Would I have to get a "business" visa for that even though I won't have a building or employees (I'd be working from home)?

I can't think of any visa that you can get in your own right *, other than the business visa, which would allow you to work self-employed. But in order to have a business visa, you have to demonstrate certain things about your business, relating to its usefulness to NZ. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...onsanswers.htm

*I've seen from another post that you're intending visiting NZ with your partner. If he were to get a visa by getting a job offer in NZ, either Residence or a work visa, it's likely you could get a visa as his partner. If he were applying for Residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, he could name you as secondary applicant. If he obtained a temporary work visa, you could apply for a partner-sponsored temporary work visa, which would match his for length of time. Either of these visas would be an open visa for you - that is, one which entitles you to take any job you are offered OR, most relevant here, run a one-person business.

If you have a 1 year working visa there's nothing to stop who you work for.

If you work for yourself as long as you pay tax it should be fine-it is for us and we work remotely with international clients

That's if it's an open visa, but be careful, because many work visas are specific to just ONE employer, and doing extra work on the side requires applying for a change of conditions. http://www.dol.govt.nz/immigration/k...base/item/1106
