What happens if the employer is not accredited?

Hi there,
my job is on the Shortage Skill List, and I am searching for a job in New Zealand.
I found some interest from a potential employer who I believe is not on the "Accredited Employers" list.
Can he sponsor my visa or not?

If you have a job offer from a New Zealand employer and do not fall under one of the categories for specialist workers below, you may apply under the Essential Skills work category. The employer will need to show that no New Zealand citizens or residents are available to do the job, either by:
showing that the job is included in one of the Essential Skills In Demand Lists; or

providing evidence that they have genuinely tried to find a New Zealand worker to fill the position.

Thanks a lot JandM, I have one more question for you or other contributors. Not sure if I have to open another thread or continue with this.
I thought to get my complete medical check for immigration purposes done in New Zealand, even though the move to NZ is still uncertain (I need to discuss it first with my family, then search for a position from the country where I live) for two reasons: it's much cheaper than the country where I live, and it's much easier, since I have several approved medical centres just a few hundreds metres away from where I am staying now, and I won't need to travel by car for hours back home.
Do you think that immigration could raise some issues, such as become suspicious and thinking of me being here searching for a job, denying me a working visa in the future, or because I have to do the medical in the country where I reside? Has the medical an "expiration date"?

Last question first, which is the important one: as noted here, http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/...ertificate.htm, all medicals must be no older than 3 months at the time you submit them with your application.

If you get a job offer while in NZ and apply for a visa almost straight away, then you can do your medical there. If you're not going to apply for a visa until after you've been home for a while, there's no point.
