    Default Moving to NZ

Hi everyone. Me and my wife are currently contemplating applying for visas to possibly live in NZ. We did a study on the best countries to live based on 4 criteria. Crime Rate, Racism, Government, and Economy. NZ placed very well in all four categories. I just wanted to see if I could get some insight on living there.

I have served in the US military for 9 years, so Im not sure what type of jobs I would even qualify for over there. My wife has degrees in literature and international relations, so she may be able to get one a bit easier than I. Any feedback would be great! Thank you in advance. Are visas difficult to obtain?

You have to have a skill you can offer, that NZ needs.

Have a look at the Immigration NZ website, and you'll see the requirements for the different kinds of visa. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/work/

I agree with JandM and you should also consider Australia if you have a skill that might be in demand there. Approximately 600,000 New Zealanders now live permanently in Australia and about 50,000 move there every year permanently/long term. This might give you a hint about the state of affairs here and for a country with only 4.5 million people.

Also, an Australian permanent visa will get you entry to New Zealand should you not like it there, and this is not vice versa.

Also, if you're wife has a formal degree and some good work experience, then she could be the primary applicant for your visa application if her skill is in demand in Australia/New Zealand.
