Applying for IRD Number from overseas

What is the procedure for applying for an IRD Number from overseas?
If someone already did it, please explain.

I believe they changed the regulations a couple of years ago so you can't now get an IRD number till you arrive in NZ.

I was told that too by my (future) employer. I have to be in NZ to apply for an IRD number.

Yes indeed. It is one of the first things you should do when you arrive.

You cannot apply for an IRD number until you are physically here in NZ.

Thanks all. I am so impatient to be in NZ that I would like to do the maximum before I arrive there. And what about a bank account?

That you CAN set up in advance. Look on the various banks' websites, and you'll see the instructions and details of the various accounts you could have.
