    Lightbulb Lightbulbs in NZ

Here in NZ, there seem to be 2 common types of lightbulb base. The screw type, which I was familiar with in the states, and another type called the bayonet type. Stores seem to stock both types equally. I have found that the bayonet type are easier to install, requiring only a flick of the wrist.

The bayonet light fitting is very commonly used in the UK. (The flick of the wrist is fine when once you've found the one of only two possible orientations for the necessary prior push in, while wobbling on steps with hands above the head, one hand steadying the socket on its wire for the other to fit the bulb to. If you're not in any hurry, it all works first time. If your mother has JUST remembered to ask you as you're half way out of the door after a two hours' visit to go to an appointment - the 'Columbo moment' - you can fiddle and curse for 10 minutes!)

I hate bayonet and will avoid them at all cost.
