The bayonet light fitting is very commonly used in the UK. (The flick of the wrist is fine when once you've found the one of only two possible orientations for the necessary prior push in, while wobbling on steps with hands above the head, one hand steadying the socket on its wire for the other to fit the bulb to. If you're not in any hurry, it all works first time. If your mother has JUST remembered to ask you as you're half way out of the door after a two hours' visit to go to an appointment - the 'Columbo moment' - you can fiddle and curse for 10 minutes!)
I much prefer the bayonet base.
I hate bayonet and will avoid them at all cost.
bayonets fit like a charm and are my favorite too.
