Hi, My wife and I have recently for PR for Australia, (From the UK) however we are more keen to move to NZ.
Are we free to just go across and work in NZ and work our way to citizenship over there without spending any time in Australia?
Thanks

I don't know what you have to do (if anything) to activate or validate Australian Residence if it is once granted.
However, here's a summary of what that would mean for you in NZ.
http://glossary.immigration.govt.nz/...dresidents.htm As you will see, basically, you would probably have to get NZ PR (if you're going to leave the country at all over the next several years), having (just by asking) got NZ Residence. You qualify for NZ PR like this. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm Then, alongside that, you have to qualify for citizenship. http://www.dia.govt.nz/Services-Citi...nd-Citizenship
Great advice as the link gave me all I needed. Simple. Thank you. Nz here we come)))
But what it DOESN'T tell you is what the Australian requirements are. Do make sure you check on the Australian immigration website for whatever formalities there may be for new Residents. It's possible that if you haven't completed them correctly, you could put your whole position in doubt in both countries.
Firstly your Australia PR is not valid until you meet the initial entry criteria. Yor visa officer would jave provided you initial entry date in Australia and you must reach Australia before the expiration date.
Once you have activated your PR you are free to fly to NZ and Apply residence visa on basis of Australia PR. at immigration .
