Default Partnership Residents Visa after 2 years

    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to know if anyone can clarify my situation as I can't find anything on NZ immigration website.

I have been in NZ for over 2 years with a residence visa obtained via sponsorship from my partner. It had travel conditions to it which expired after 2 years. If I left NZ now then I probably wouldn't get back in. I forgot to update the visa basically - is there a time limit for me to get this done? Will they definitely update it? I own a house and have a job and our child was born here 18 months ago.

Your Residence visa continues in force all the while you stay in NZ - in theory, if you didn't leave, for life. So you didn't need to update it and you're not in any trouble.

You're quite right that you'd have a problem getting back in if you left NZ, but this is easily sorted out. You're entitled to PR (in the same way as someone who got Residence through work and/or qualifications) http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm and you just need to go through the procedure. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...teps/apply.htm It's a formality.
