    Default We are Citizens

Submitted our applications on 1 July and then caught Mayor Bob Parker's last citizenship ceremony in Christchurch on Wednesday evening. It was actually all quite straight forward. Policies have recently been changed such that the Department of Internal Affairs will now accept some of the same translations, etc that were initially provided to Immigration New Zealand as part of visa applications. We received our acceptance letters within just a few weeks but had to wait a fair bit for the ceremony. Five years has passed by very quickly...

Could you tell a wee bit more about this?! We will submit my wife´s application in a few months and are interested in these changes as I had to get new translations...

We had a couple of documents - a birth certificate and a marriage certificate - that had been previously translated for our visa applications. We were prepared to spend $50 per document to have them retranslated and then the DOI folks told us they were testing a new system whereby these types of previous translations would be accepted. We were told no promises but, in the end, the original translations were accepted. Something you'll need to discuss with your DOI contact, I would say. Good luck!
