If we are on a temp visa (work exchange or Visitor) and have an ITA would there be an interim visa that could be applied for to save us having to return back to the UK and wait for Christ church to process the application>

I don't think this is likely to be necessary. However, if your work visa is still valid, your husband could get a partnership-based visitor or work visa in about 4 weeks from application. No need to leave the country!
You couldn't expect an interim visa http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/ex...37350D8703.htm, as these are only available for those who have some kind of temporary visa, and are applying for another temporary visa. But, as Karen says, your husband could apply for a partner-sponsored temporary work visa (see link given on your other thread) very soon, and it should not take long. And if you get within about eight weeks of the end of your work visa, and have heard nothing about your Residence application, you can get in touch with INZ to point out that time is getting short, and they will advise you if it's likely to be through in time, or if you need to put in a for a work visa to bridge the gap.
