Initial resident visa or permanent resident visa

Hello Everyone

My Immigration has been successful. I have a question to ask as I am confused. Hope some one can help me.


Once Immigration is successful, what kind of visa is given, is it initial resident visa or permanent resident visa.

I applied through skilled worker category.

You should get a Residence class visa and provided you meet the conditions, after 2 years you can apply for a Permanent Residence Visa.
Much confusion has been caused because under the old system the first visa was also called a Permanent Residence visa but you got a Resident Return Visa after 2 years.

Yes, your first visa if successful under SMC is Residence. After a minimum of two years you can apply for Permanent Residence. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm
