    Default IELTS - waivered?

    Hi,

Is there a way of knowing whether you can waiver the english assessment test? In my situation, I live in South Africa with a partner but I have a British passport as well. Just wondering if the fact that I have British passport would mean that I don't have to get an english assessment. Would it mean then that I would have to apply using this passport instead of my South African one? My partner doesn't, she only has a South African passport so I would assume that she would need to still get one.

There are a number of ways of proving your English skills. Having a UK passport isn't one of them. If you have lived and worked in a skilled occupation in an English speaking community/country or attained a degree or similar higher education qualification where English is the only medium of instruction, then you won't need IELTS.

Here is the detail of what will be considered as proofs of English, apart from IELTS. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/41495.htm
