    Default Change in marital status:

    Hello, all.

I hope everyone is doing well. I would like to know if there is a change in my marital status, do I need to inform immigration NZ about change in my marital status? I am a Permanent Resident visa holder, and my we are not thinking of immigrating my partner until 2016 ( because of our work commitments). We have not decided to where to live ( USA or NZ) at the moment.

Anyway,I could not find any information in the manuals so far. I thought I should post it here and see if there are any suggestions from the experienced members here.

    Thank you.

As a permanent resident visa holder there is no obligation to tell INZ about your marriage. However, when you come to get a residence via for your wife, you will need to prove that you have lived together for at least 12 months. This may be difficult if you are living in separate countries. I suggest your focus should be on setting up home together in whoever country and gathering evidence of the fat that you live together, have a shared life e.g. shared tenancy, mortgage, bank statements, and also evidence that you travel together, socialise together, keep in touch when your work commitments keep you apart - photos, copies of flight tickets, hotel bookings etc. Then, when you are ready you will have everything you need to prove your partnership to INZ.

    Great! Thank you, Karen.

I appreciate your quick reply. We are working on the details, and we will be deciding soon.

    Your reply is much appreciated.
