Default HELP - It's like hitting my head against a BRICK wall!!

    All,

Not a very positive heading I know but I am so desperate to move to NZ yet I seem to be coming up against obstacles non stop. As a very positive person by nature it has taken a lot to get me to this stage.

With years in Sales Management it seems I have a very generic job which is not in demand and never has been. What is the best way to get a job in NZ, my options I believe are as follows:

Book a ticket for 6 months and door knock with CV, register with agencies and make a general pest of myself until someone takes pity on me (LOL).

Continue networking on LinkedIn, applying for jobs from the UK and searching the forums for a contact to lead me to the dream in NZ.

Settle in the UK and stop the pipe dream.

I have a passion for nutrition and noticed a course the other day that is recognised in NZ, would I need a few years practising experience to get in as a nutrionalist or would the certificate be enough?

Any guidance or slaps around the face to get a grip are welcomed.

    Cheers

    Hiya

I was 34 when we arrived in NZ, after following the backpacker trail. I come from a corporate sales background in the UK, never been to Uni. Hit the ground running, applying for jobs, meeting recruitment companies and had four job offers after four weeks. Then I had to apply for a work visa, you can do this by demonstrating the fact you have been offered a job, the job is "skilled" (not working for McDonalds) and your experience/qualifications make you suitable for the role.

The immigration dept has a list of what it considers "skilled" professions,

    131112 Sales and Marketing Manager
    225411 Sales Representative (Industrial Products)
225412 Sales Representative (Medical and Pharmaceutical Products)
    225211 ICT Account Manager
    225212 ICT Business Development Manager
    225213 ICT Sales Representative

If you can find a job that fits these descriptions, then you are in with a fighting chance.

Next, you actually have to get a job. Do you think someone would seriously hire someone, based on Internet contact, someone who may or may not jump on a plane? It's not impossible, but your chances of actually getting a job offer are very much greater if you are here in person and knocking on doors.

Sometimes you have to grab the bull by the horns!

    Hope that helps.

Adding to what Beachcombers has said, those reference numbers in front of the job names are from the ANZSCO list - a classification used by Australian and New Zealand immigration departments. If you enter one in Google, for instance, the first one https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=cr&...keting+Manager, you will come up with various sites which give you the official breakdown of what skills the job is considered to cover, and what the required qualifications are. (Ignore the parts about Australian visas - the job descriptions are good for NZ as well.)

Here's the INZ list of skilled occupations. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/35165.htm Following the link at the top of that page, here's what is necessary to prove to INZ that you have a skilled job. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/46411.htm

And here's an old thread about people not getting jobs from overseas. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread....952#post359952

Firstly, don't give up on the dream. I'm glad we didn't though at times it was very hard to continue living our lives in the UK whilst our hearts were wanting to be here in NZ.

We tried all the usual from the UK to no avail but investing the money to make a trip out here and meeting with potential employers, helped to secure the elusive job offer. We feel this was especially important for us as our jobs are not on any shortages lists and we had the 'proving a local couldn't do the job' hurdle to jump too. This where our immigration agent really came into play, as they worked with OH's employer to reassure them about the process, our eligibility and paperwork for getting him out here with the least amount of hassle for them.

Good luck with the dream - took us 17 years but worth every minute of the wait.

Our final step is residency - ITA to be lodged very soon then our dream will well and truly have been fulfilled.

Thank you for your reply that has really helped to inspire me again and I have decided to save the pennies and just jump on a plane and knock on doors, join agencies and speak to anyone I meet.

If you could recommend any agencies that specialise in sales that would be great. Thank you, it was just the tonic I needed to hear. Very positive and timely.
