Default Residence Application & Immigration fine

    Hi,

My EOI with job offer was selected on 18 Sept 2013 and I received ITA on 22 Oct 2013

In the mean time I have obtained work visa and just arrived to NZ on 28 Nov.

Unfortunately I forgot to declare a 200gm honey bottle in my luggage and fined 400$ on Auckland airport which I paid on spot.

Now I am going to lodge my ITA with Christchurch branch, do you think the immigration fine is going to impact my residence application any way?

Any one has experienced such condition before pls share with me.

    Thanks.

I don't think the fine is going to reflect on your application at all. I have paid a lot of fines/received a lot of warnings here in NZ before I applied for my residence and none of them was reflected on my application(or rather I was never scrutinized specifically for any of them). So my advise to you would be to put the incident behind you and to just go for it.

Its just a honey for which you were fined. That definitely will not go into official records with INZ.
    Don't worry about it.

For anyone else seeing this thread, DON'T bring honey to NZ - nobody is allowed to import foreign honey. If you do bring it, even if you declare it, it will be confiscated and destroyed. (This is to guard against any possibility of bringing in organisms that are not native to NZ which could affect the local bees and product.)
