Question How to should I do it

    Helllo All,

According to the http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ my position as an ICT manager with a MCSE, places me in the Skilled Migrant Category, so I should get in to Kiwi Land from South Africa. My question is, in what sequence should I do my immigration,

    * Do I go to New Zealand, get a job then get a work visa.
    * Do I submit my EOI, then go over to look for a job and then apply for a work visa.
    * Do I go through the process of getting a work visa then come over to look for a job.

Then just as a general question, why should I use an immigration agent rather than doing the process myself, what advantage do I get over doing to application myself.

    Thank you in advance.

Putting the last question first, there is no reason why you shouldn't handle your application yourself. The information you need is all publicly available on the INZ website and in their operational manual, and people here will share their experience. Some people with unusual circumstances find it an advantage to talk to a licensed agent, but they are the minority, and most people can save the money.

    * Do I go to New Zealand, get a job then get a work visa.
    * Do I submit my EOI, then go over to look for a job and then apply for a work visa.
    * Do I go through the process of getting a work visa then come over to look for a job.
You could do any of those, possibly. The first two would depend on your getting a visitor's visa. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/stream/visit/ Once in NZ you aren't allowed to start without having a work visa or Residence. If you had put in your EOI (applying for Residence as a Skilled Migrant), then got a skilled job offer in NZ, your case would be given priority, so you might, depending on how much of the paperwork had already been done, be able to get your Residence through in time to start when the employer would like you to, but you would probably have to put in for a work visa as well, to get started, and let the Residence application take as long as it takes.

The third suggestion is a bit of a Catch 22. It's easier to get Residence if you've got a job offer (and you can't get a work visa without a job offer), and/but it's easier to get a job offer if you've already got a visa.

    Vexander,

So, your position is in the SMC occupation list.
    For your first portion of queries, in simple terms;

    - If you manage to get a job before hand ( either by going to NZ or being Offshore ) , your application will have priority on processing with INZ due to your job offer-in-hand

The second portion has been answered numerous times. Its a simple case of deciding if you want to pay additional sum to an agent to get it done when all the stuff will have to be done by yourself ( such as collecting documents, doing medicals etc.)
Agent will only possibly remind you of important timelines, about any missing documents & will represent you in INZ.

Unless you have any legal complications known to you, which might need legal help, the entire process of SMC visa can be done by one self.
Final decision is to your discretion whether you are comfortable doing all this yourself or you want a legal representative.

    Hope this help!

If you have enough points to pass the EOI, then go first for it, submit you EOI and then ITA , and wait for the results.

and in the mean time keep searching jobs in NZ and if you hit any , tell the INZ and they will prioritize your case
