In the university sector, most salaries are found on the TEU (the academic and professional staff trade union) site: http://teu.ac.nz/
Most research only roles are Research Fellows or Post-doctoral fellows. Persons paid out of grants might earn a bit more or less. Good luck!

I apologise for my first post on here being blatant threadomancy but I was curious if the OP ever did manage to find salary information for MLS jobs. All the information I can find is rather vague.
