    Default Driving license-Will i need to undergo lessons?

    Folks,

    We would be heading to NZ somewhere around end of June.
    I currently do not hold a valid driving license, but i have completed my driving lesson course here in Singapore & i know how to drive. The question is;

    If i come to NZ without a driving license, will i need to undergo the entire of set of driving lessons in NZ again? or can i sit for the theory & practical tests directly & obtain a NZ license?

    Thank You all.

    The NZ system doesn't include insistence on a set number of lessons, but does have time built in, intended for the new driver to gather experience.

    Here are the details of the progression to getting a full licence in NZ. http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/gett...r-licence.html

    And here http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/fa...g-courses.html are details of courses that can reduce the time till you have a full licence.

    Notice, even if you had passed your test in Singapore, you would still have to take the practical and theory tests to get a NZ licence. http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/fa...-licences.html

    I would suggest you take the theory test for a learner permit while in NZ and then go to a driving school. Once you are enrolled, the instructor can access how much practical driving lessons you need, if you do need any at all or just a refresher course.

    It is not compulsory for you to get driving instruction at all in NZ but as a learner permit holder you need to drive under supervision at all times, meaning you need a driver with at least 2 years NZ driving license, sitting beside you at all times while you are behind the wheel.

    Then once you passed the practical test, you can get a restricted license where you are only allowed to drive during daytime hours for a short while and then finally graduate to a full license.
