Default What if his work visa expire before they give us the outcome for his residence application?

My partner has a work visa, i heard that residence visa application take so long(3 months?) to be looked at and either approve/reject the application. What if within those three months, my partner's work visa expires, what will happen then???? He will be here unlawfully/illegally? Is there an exemption to this? Because we will only be waiting for the outcome of his residence application, which will hopefully won't take too long

If your partner gets to eight weeks before the end of his work visa without a reply coming back about Residence, he can write in to the CO pointing this out and asking if his case is likely to be decided in time, or if he should apply for a further partner-sponsored work visa. Quite often when people do this, their Residence is speedily cleared, but if the CO can see it can't be, then getting the further work visa keeps them legal.

Interim visas are not available for people moving from a temporary visa of whatever kind to Residence, whereas if someone on a temporary visa is applying for a further temporary visa, any delay will be covered by INZ giving them an interim visa. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...erimvisaqa.htm

Thanks mate interim visa wouldn't be for him. We will have to apply for another temporary work visa for him, because the admin support officer suggested to apply a temporary visa since his visa is expiring soon
