Hello ENZ forum! I've been a reader for a couple years, but finally have a reason to post.
Quick background- I'm a 28 year old from Colorado with a partner. We've been wanting to move to NZ for 5+ years since I spent time in NZ on a WH visa.
I've received an offer of permanent employment for a job in Wellington. The company has offered to sponsor the visa process, but would like to bring me in on a temporary work visa and then start the residency visa process upon my arrival.
I'm a bit concerned because I'd like to start the 2 year clock for permanent residency as soon as possible. Is this temp->residency process common? I'm worried that if I get brought in on a six month visa that it will not give the employer an incentive to sponsor the residency visa for the first six months.
Also, is it possible for my partner to come with me if I've only got the temporary work visa to start? Would she have to wait for me to get a residency visa before being granted the right to work herself?
Thank you all for your help!
