Default Permanent Residency for secondary applicants

    Dear All,

We got blue stickers in our passports last month. Following are the details in the visa:

    Start Date:
    First entry before:
    Number of entries: Multiple
    Visa expiry: Indefinite
    Family, Given names:
    Passport No.
    Sex:
    Date of Birth:
    Citizenship:
Conditions: Visa valid for further travel for 24 months from first arrival. Initial stay subject to grant of entry permission. Visa is invalid if holder is outside NZ with expired travel conditions. Please apply for transfer of this visa when the passport expires.

The same conditions are for Primary and Secondary applicants in the passports.

I would like to know what are conditions to met by Secondary Applicants to apply for PR. Further, in case if the Primary Applicant is able to make the first entry as specified and the secondary applicants are unable to make the first entry as in the visa, is there any way to get extension for first entry for Secondary Applicants?

    Please provide your comments...

    Thanks and regards,

The secondary applicants MUST activate their Residence visa by arriving in NZ before the date specified, or their visas will lapse. There is no way round this. However, if it's not convenient for them to move to NZ then, that doesn't matter - they could leave on the next plane, or have a short holiday and then go back to their current home country for the time being.

As to secondary applicants qualifying for PR, as long as the principal applicant qualifies, the secondary applicants will be granted PR along with him/her - they don't individually have to meet the criteria. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/45650.htm See RV1.20 b i and ii.
