Where to go for outdoor sports jobs?
I'm thinking about moving to New Zealand in the next year, but am not sure where the right place for me would be. I am a female, recent university graduate and I am planning on looking for jobs in outdoor sports- tour guide for hikers, possibly scuba diving, sailing, really anything outdoors. Taupo is the only place I have heard so far that may be what I am looking for, but I wanted to get other opinions. Thanks!

Hello.I'm wondering if you're thinking of a temporary move, in which case you'll be all right to look to pick up that kind of work on a casual basis with a Working Holiday Visa.
If you're wanting to move to NZ for the longer term, though, you'll need to consider how you could fit in with the NZ visa regulations. If you have qualifications in a skilled occupation, you can apply for Residence under the Skilled Migrant Scheme without first having a job offer. However, you wouldn't get that for the kind of work you're talking about. Your only chance of getting a work visa for that kind of field would be if you had the offer of a job where the NZ employer had been advertising and not found a NZ national or resident suitable for the position. In the smaller areas of NZ, it can be difficult to get a job for a person who has no connections to the area, even a job for which you are well qualified. One way to go around that is to get a job that is not ideal in a similar field with the same people and then once you have established some kind of employment history in the area, to go for the job you really want.

Queenstown. Adventure sports "capital" of New Zealand. Population of 20,000, boosted to 70,000 by tourism, 1.9 million visitors a year. Lots and lots of young people there on working holiday visas.

I haven't been to Queenstown, but all my Australian friends rave about it, especially about the skiing. You can ski for much less money than in Australia and in incredibly beautiful mountains. It makes me want to book my ticket to go there
