4WD or 2WD for North Island

Hi all,

I know it is highly recomended to have 4WD for South island if you want to get to interesting places and around..but what about North of NZ?
Is it also necessary?

You can easily get to interesting places on the South Island without a 4WD. Although I don't live on the North Island, I've been to a lot of interesting places there without a 4WD. Unless you plan on going pig or deer hunting in the back country, there are many beautiful, remote places that are accessible without a 4WD.
