Default Which working visa should I apply for?

    Hello,

    My situation is as follows:
    - moving to Auckland next month on a visitor visa. there is a good possibility I will have a job offer from a NZ employer.
    - education&working experience: carpenter with 5 years experience + bachelors degree in wood sience (no working experience yet)
    - planning a permanent move to Auckland
    - my partner of 3 years is coming with me and I want to include her in my visa application. She has a colleage degree in sociology.

Can you please advise me which working visa would be the best option for me (or for us)?

    Many thanks for your help!

If you are offered a job as a carpenter, that is, a skilled job in line with your qualifications and experience, then you will need to apply for a work visa first, as this can be processed quite quickly and won't keep the employer waiting for you to start. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra.../requirements/ At the same time as this, your partner can apply for a partner-sponsored temporary work visa http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...milystream.htm, linking the application with yours by a covering letter, then the CO will work the case as all one, supplying anything you would not know, like your visa number, as it becomes available.

Once you have a permanent job, you can apply for Residence by putting in an EOI, and this can include your partner on the same form. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...nt/default.htm

For partner-sponsored visas of either sort, the partner's qualifications and work history are not inspected - ALL you need to prove is the fact of the partnership.

Please note that INZ defines a partnership as a live-in relationship, and you will have to give evidence of living together at the time of the application and just beforehand. Please see this recent post for helpful links. http://www.enz.org/forum/showthread....491#post510491

Thank you JandM for the information!

So if I manage to obtain the temporary work visa (and my partner a partner-sponsored temporary work visa) - how long do we have to work before we can apply for residence? is it 2 years or less?

I also wonder about medical insurance while working on temporary visa - do the temporary workers get insurance?

The part about partnership proof will be the easy part, we are living together and have many proofs of it

    Wish you a great day!

You can apply for Residence under SMC immediately, as soon as you have a skilled job (at the same time as being on the work visa). It will take longer to process, which is why people get the work visa first to get started on living/working in NZ, while it ticks away taking the time it takes.

People are entitled to use the NZ Health Service under two sets of circumstances that may apply to you. Residents are eligible. http://www.health.govt.nz/new-zealan...land-residents Also, holders of work visas that will run for 24 months at least are eligible. http://www.health.govt.nz/new-zealan...-years-or-more Apart from that, if you want private medical insurance (until you get eligible, say), you will have to choose it and take it out yourself.
