Default Significance of job moving from LTSSL to ISSL

I read on a thread here that the role of lecturer (my husband's current profession) is moving from the LTSSL to the ISSL. Because of the nature of his work he would need a job offer to come over anyway and all uni's seem to be accredited employers. So my question is - are there any other implications of this change? Is it good, bad or indifferent? His experience and qualifications meet the description on that general list of skilled jobs (sorry, can't remember the proper name!) but not the description on the LTSSL as his academic career is more recent but based on his lengthy experience in industry.

Thanks in advance if anyone can shed any light

Being on the ISSL means a person with qualifications for that job may be eligible to apply for an Essential Skills temporary work visa.
The duration of the visa depends on the term of your job offer and labour market conditions. Essential Skills work visas are intended to fill temporary skill gaps, so they do not lead directly to a residence application.
Whereas being on the LTSSL means that the person can apply for a Work To Residence visa, which does lead directly on to Residence.

But obviously, Lecturer is a Skilled Occupation, and with a job or offer, entitles the person to apply under SMC.

OK,I think I've got that. So he doesn't meet the current LTSSL description and so presumably won't meet the ISSL description either but that isn't relevant as he can still apply under SMC because he does meet the general description on the skilled occupation list.

And in the case of his employer needing him to start quickly presumably he would be eligible for another type of quicker work visa and could apply concurrently for SMC? I'm assuming that universities won't have much of an issue getting in the staff they need anyway.

Thank you, once again, JandM We will get there in the end and at least we have more options now (even if they are still confusing!).
