    Default Emigration from the UK

    Hi All,

    First time posting on here.

I am intending to emigrate to NZ shortly and have a working holiday visa lined up. I would like to transfer to a work to residence visa in order to relocate to NZ on a permanent basis and have a rough idea of the immigration process required to do this. I solicited the services of a emigration specialist in the UK although decided not to proceed with them due to the high cost involved.

So I'm just after some general advice on which order I should do things, based on my options.

I am eligible to apply under the skilled migrant category and would have 145 points with a job offer. I have [hopefully] a job offer but it would only be a fixed term, 12mth contract.

Can I apply for a work to residence visa based on a fixed term contract or would it need to be a permanent contact?. Also, I am unsure on when to start the EOI process, should I start now or wait until my job offer is guaranteed?.

    Thanks V much in advance.

    Josh

About an application under SMC for Residence. See SM7.10 and SM7.15 here. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/30545.htm In theory a job offer with a 12-month contract should be possible, but in practice, some people have found INZ saying there should be the prospect of more work with the firm to follow on.

For a WTR visa, the job offer has to be for a minimum of two years. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...quirements.htm

You can't do anything in advance for INZ. You have to have a firm offer of emplyment, in writing, and also send the contract with all the small print.
