Default Having a baby while waiting for a resident visa? Good or bad idea?

    Hello,

I am in the process of getting a Permanent Resident visa. My husband is an expat NZ citizen (born and raised in NZ) and we have been married almost 10 years. We have one child together.

My visa application is currently getting a second check and my case officer has assured me that she expects it back any day now (yay!).

My husband and I desperately want another baby and based on my age (35) I would rather have one sooner than later.

What would happen if I get pregnant PRIOR to my visa being accepted? Is this something that I should avoid? Would I need to declare this to my case officer?

What would happen if I get pregnant AFTER my visa is accepted but BEFORE I land in New Zealand? Would I need to let someone know?

As a PR would I get health coverage at all or would I have to pay for it myself?

We currently live in Canada where all these expenses would be covered however my husband is due to start a new job in NZ and they told him mid-July is the LATEST he can really start - so its important for us to be there before than...

Any advice/resources to read would be much appreciated!

Yes, by all means tell the CO if a pregnancy happens - you're definitely allowed to add to the family while the application is in progress.

Your child will be entitled to NZ citizenship. If you register him/her https://www.govt.nz/browse/citizensh...born-overseas/, even if born abroad, you won't have any problems with visas, even if s/he is born before you travel.

And yes, as a PR (or ordinary Resident, actually) you will be entitled to the full range of health care on the same terms as NZ nationals. http://www.health.govt.nz/new-zealan...land-residents Actually, even if you weren't going to be entitled in your own right, as your husband is a NZ citizen, and as the child to come will be a NZ citizen, you would be entitled in his/her right. http://www.health.govt.nz/new-zealan...nancy-services
