Ageism in New Zealand?

This is my first post and I'm hoping I can clarify a concern my husband has raised recently.

My husband will be looking for work as a Business Analyst/Tester in the ICT field when we relocate from Norway in September. He'll have just turned 50 (though he doesn't "look his age") and is concerned that his age will prove to be a serious deterrent in landing a position. Here in Norway ageism is a rather disturbing reality and I actually stopped working in recruiting in the U.S. because, in some aspects, there were blatant displays of such discrimination. Has anyone encountered this as an issue in securing work in New Zealand?

I haven't come across such discrimination at work, usually they have more wisdom & experience on their side so age actually works for the benefit of workforce. I have come across good mix of people in the past 2 companies here with at least 5 people in my current organization where people are in their mid to late 50's. The only drawback I can vaguely think of is probably catching up with technology but that wouldn't be concern in NZ (as far as I have seen) as quite a few companies use 10-15 year old technologies in their critical systems (and without any upgrades!).

I second what Sun777 says and I haven't come across age discrimination here.
My partner got his job here at 50.
Within the IT companies I work with there are numerous migrants who have come to NZ after 50 and landed good positions. I shouldn't worry about age, as long as he has the skills the industry needs

Just like to add my comments.

I arrived in New Zealand in my mid fifties with thirty years of IT experience erand had no real problems finding work. Most of the people I work with are of a similar age with one or two people continuing to work well past the 'normal' retirement age.

Don't thing finding work at my age would be as easy in the UK

A bit of a late reply... I'm 53 and was recently offered 2 positions in NZ.

I am a software developer but specialise in Oracle databases which posed a bigger challenge to finding a job than my age.
I have found that most NZ companies are innovative and eager to keep on top of new technologies. So it would be useful if your husband could brush up his skills and knowledge. I also encountered adverts that implied they wanted 'young' applicants just by the language they used & the staff photo's displayed in company profiles.
