Hi volunteer. As wellywearer said, is super easy to get sunburnt here, even when it isn't sunny. Also the sun fades things sooo quickly, e.g. carpet/curtains/duvet covers, etc. And NZ does have higher rates of melanoma, etc. than other countries.
A doctor told me all this is due to the unique angle of the sun on NZ relative to the rest of the world.

Dangerous would be understatement, the sun is very strong and you might have to use good sunscreen lotion while venturing out, usually the sun is very strong between 11am to 4pm. Despite the high humidity levels here (in Auckland) we have found our skin has dried up quite a bit in the past few years.

put on sunscreen, and shades if you have to. sun is pretty intense here compared to where I come from.... i got burnt too easily these days.
