Default got o job offer and need help with application process

    Hello guys,

I`ve received a job offer from NZ employer (not accredited) and I will be applying for a temporary work visa. I`m a little confused about the whole application process (there`s just too much info!), but I don`t want to pay for a lawyer. I hope with your help I`ll be able to apply by myself

    So my questions are:

    1. Just to check - is the Essential skills category the best option to start working asap?

    2. I will be applying for the position of Cabinet-maker which is also my education. The problem is that my formal title is Wood science technician and it is not on the ANZSCO list of occupations. What does this mean? Will my diploma be enough for INZ or do I need to go through some process to obtain the exact same title as in my job offer? The employer has no problem with my title.

    3. My occupation is not on the SSL so the employer will need to give evidence there is no NZ worker available. Do I need to present proof of that when I`m applying for the visa or does the immigration contact the employer after they receive my application? Can I expect help from the employer with the whole process (they didn`t say anything about that) or you need to do it yourself usually?

    4. There is no end date stated in the contract, just that "the agreement shall continue until terminated by either party". What does this mean for the length of the visa, what can I expect?

    5. Other than Medical & Police certificate, proof of education & work experience, passport & birth certificate, will I need to present any other documents?

    6. Will I need to pass IELTS test?

    7. Any advice about the choice of the medical clinic (I`m in Auckland)? I`ve called a few and they have very different prices. But I`m affraid if I choose the cheapest one, I`ll regret it ...

Wish you all a great day!

    1. Yes, that is probably your only possibility.

    2. Cabinetmaker is on the list of Skilled Occupations. http://skillshortages.immigration.govt.nz/cabinetmaker/ As long as the skills learnt in your training for the Wood Science Technician qualification match up to the skills mentioned for Cabinetmaker in the ANZSCO listing http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@....+Cabinetmakers, your diploma will be all right. The particular words in the title do not matter, as long as the skills match up.

Unless your diploma is mentioned in the INZ list of qualifications exempt from assessment http://www.immigration.govt.nz/opsmanual/35171.htm, you will need to get it assessed by ANZSCO (the IQA) http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualificatio...ns-assessment/. You will need to fill in the form at Appendix B here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd...ifications.pdf, asking them to check that your qualification matches for at least "NZ Register Level 4 qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)".

    3. From the INZ page here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...entialwork.htm, it is going to be up to the employer.
Evidence there are no New Zealand workers available

To get an approval in principle before you apply, or to show us that there are no suitable New Zealand workers available when you are applying, the employer has to show that they have genuinely searched for suitably qualified and trained New Zealand workers.

The employer also has to explain why:

their particular job specifications are necessary for the work
New Zealand applicants are not suitable, and
New Zealand applicants cannot be readily trained.

We also need to be satisfied that the employer has previously met – and will continue to meet – New Zealand employment and immigration laws.
    4. From that same INZ page.
Essential Skills work visas will usually be issued with a maximum duration of three years where an applicant’s job offer is for an occupation classified as an ANZSCO Skill Level 1, 2 or 3.
    5. Look here for outline of requirements. http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...ply/essential/ Also, the form http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd.../0/INZ1015.pdf and the guide http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rd.../0/INZ1016.pdf should help.

    6. There is no requirement for IELTS for this visa.

    7. The ones listed here for Auckland http://www.immigration.govt.nz/templates/Content/ListsPopup.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={AD34E 1A3-1114-4311-8CB0-C4E80C6CB586}&NRORIGINALURL=%2fmigrant%2fstream%2f study%2fapplication%2fLinkAdministration%2fToolbox Links%2fpaneldoctors.htm%3flevel%3d1&NRCACHEHINT=G uest&level=1 are those INZ has approved. If you choose any of them, you should be all right.

.. just to supplement JandM's excellent answer, there has been a recent instruction that if the employer had registered the vacancy with WINZ (Work and Income New Zealand) then this is sufficient proof that they tried to recruit a Kiwi.
