Question IT recruiters - Please recommend

    Hi

Could you recommend IT recruiters based in NZ that could assist with the job hunting proses whilst we are still based in SA? Please advise if you have had some personal experience with them and if you were able to secure a job interview or placement.

    Thanks

They're intending to go on visitors' visas, looking for work.

If that's the case, then unless it's an extremely specialized IT position, the answer is none. The recruiters want nothing to do with you unless you are a) in the country and b) have legal status to work.

    So, what sort of IT?

As mentioned in the previous comment, we do not hold work visas. We thought to do an LSD trip and see if my partners skills will be needed and if he could secure employment. I know he is not allowed to job hunt whilst on a visitors visa, but from our responses from companies, they all want him there before even considering an interview. He is in Systems Engineering/ Application Packager so currently still on the skills shortage list. unfortunately we fall smack in the middle of the catch 22 situation where he would need a job offer to be able to apply for a work visa.

If he can connect with recruiters here and set up Skype interviews it would be GREAT!

Sorry to say I don't think his IT skill set is specialized enough, so the majority of recruiters won't be interested without a permit (and all their postings say so, and it's the second question they ask).

This is wrong. He IS allowed to look for work, have interviews with employers and agents, drop off his CV with companies, etc., etc.. The only thing he's NOT allowed to do is actually start work till he's got a work visa.

Further to this, you should declare your "look and see" intention to INZ when applying for visitor visas to allow immigration officers to accurately assess you are unlikely to overstay or otherwise breech conditions of the visa.

Have a look at these threads and it will give you some idea on the agencies & bit of information:

NZ is more technology oriented (even for Analyst roles) so it will help if your husband can get a feel of how his expertise (and technical skills) fare here, I have come across pretty out-dated technologies here (companies) that have not upgraded their critical systems for over 10 years

[these are some of the top 10 companies]

Not a big fan of recruitment agencies here, but in my experience, it is not even just a visa question. They prefer you to be here, regardless of visa status. And yes, as JandM has pointed out, it is fine to look for work, as long as you don't start to work

You should probably be prepared for the recruiters to be bit reluctant if you don't have a permit even if you are here, so you might want to anticipate having to contact and pester quite a few agencies.
