    Default Transit insurance for container?

What are the general thoughts on this? It seems like it will add a significant amount to cover the goods I want to move.
Are there any third party companies that provide insurance for shipments?

Don't know about the US but there are companies based in the UK that do marine insurance (Letton Percival for instance)
I am sure that there will be companies in the US who do that.
Do you need it? Well, if you don't have it, you just have to take the risk. Same as with any other insurance.

I remember when the container ship MV Rena went down off Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty in October 2011. I know of at least one family whose uninsured worldly goods were in one of those containers - they lost everything!
