Hello,
I have a chance of securing a job offer with a NZ employer. I'm currently in New Zealand on a student visa which I will try to change to a work visa once I have the offer. My original plan involved studying for a year and then looking for a job. I was told I didn't need to submit police certificates and could just do it later during my studies. Apparently, I need them now but only if the work visa will be for longer than 24 months.
I discussed this with the potential employer and they want me to sign an open contract - valid for as long as my work permission is valid. So, my question is - can I apply for a one year work visa with an open contract? I will start the process of obtaining the certificates immediately (need them for a residency application later) but since it takes several weeks, I don't want to wait for them now.
